President Bola Tinubu used the occasion of International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, to pay tribute to Nigerian women both at home and abroad, hailing them as a driving force behind the country’s growth and progress.
In a message marking the 2026 edition of the global celebration, the President praised the resilience, bravery and unwavering spirit that women across the country bring to every facet of national life.
“Today, on International Women’s Day, I celebrate the women of Nigeria, at home and abroad.
“Across our homes, farms, markets, offices, and the halls of leadership, Nigerian women continue to demonstrate strength, courage, and determination that help hold our nation together,” Tinubu said.
He highlighted the many roles women occupy in building the nation, from raising families to running businesses and leading in professional fields.
“They are mothers who nurture, entrepreneurs who build, professionals who lead, and citizens who continue to shape the destiny of our country with resilience and dignity.”
The President went further, recognising the contributions women have made throughout Nigeria’s history, both in the fight for democracy and in everyday efforts that keep communities going.

“Nigeria’s progress has always carried the imprint of women who refused to accept limits placed before them.
“From those who fought for our democracy to the millions who labour daily to support their families and communities, their contributions to nation-building are profound.”
Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to opening doors for women and girls to reach their full potential.
“Our duty as a government and as a society is to continue creating the conditions where every Nigerian girl can learn, every woman can thrive economically, and every voice can contribute to our national development.”
Underscoring the broader significance of women’s advancement for the country, he declared, “When Nigerian women rise, Nigeria rises.”
The President rounded off his message by honoring the sacrifices and lasting impact of women on the nation’s story.
“Today we honour their strength, their sacrifices, and their enduring role in the story of our country. Happy International Women’s Day,” Tinubu concluded.
