President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the nomination of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Presidency announced on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate before Yuguda can officially take office.
The decision comes after the previous CBN deputy governor, Bala M. Bello, was reassigned as Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.
Yuguda is a veteran economist and banker with over three decades of experience.

He began his career at the CBN in 1984, later serving as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C., and rising to the position of Director of the Reserve Management Department before retiring in 2016.
He also served as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria from 2020 to 2024.
He holds a B.Sc. in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and an M.Sc. in Money, Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham, UK.
He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).
Once confirmed by the Senate, Yuguda will join the CBN leadership at a critical time as the bank continues to steer monetary policy and maintain financial stability in Nigeria.
