Former presidential aide and social commentator, Reno Omokri, has publicly challenged recent comments by Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Mr Peter Obi, in which Obi claimed he is more experienced and better qualified to lead Nigeria than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Obi made the assertion on Sunday, December 28, 2025, during an X (formerly Twitter) Space, where he said he possessed the requisite experience to turn Nigeria around, citing his business background and governance exposure.
“I know how to turn Nigeria around. I built my business from scratch and have more experience than any candidate, including the sitting President,” Obi was quoted as saying.
Reacting in a lengthy statement, Omokri on his official Facebook page on Monday dismissed the claim, arguing that available records do not support Obi’s position when compared with other prominent political figures, including President Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
On educational qualifications, Omokri contended that Obi ranks lowest among the quartet. He stated that President Tinubu holds a First Class (Cum Laude) degree in Accounting from Chicago State University, Atiku Abubakar has a Master’s degree in International Relations from Anglia Ruskin University in the United Kingdom, while Kwankwaso possesses a PhD in Civil Engineering from Sharda University in India. By contrast, Obi holds a Second Class degree in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Omokri further examined the candidates’ records in executive office, noting that Tinubu and Kwankwaso, during their tenures as governors, initiated and completed multiple educational and infrastructure projects.
He listed several millennium secondary schools and independent power projects credited to Tinubu’s administration in Lagos State, as well as independent power projects executed under Kwankwaso in Kano State.
By comparison, Omokri alleged that Obi, during his eight-year tenure as Governor of Anambra State, did not build any nursery, primary or secondary schools, universities, or independent power projects. He also criticised Obi for purchasing hundreds of official vehicles for traditional rulers in the state.
Citing poverty statistics, Omokri claimed that Anambra State’s poverty rate increased from 41.4 per cent in 2003 to 53.7 per cent by 2009 while Obi was governor, contrasting this with what he described as poverty reduction efforts under Tinubu in Lagos and Kwankwaso in Kano.

On corruption allegations, Omokri said Obi remains the only potential 2027 presidential aspirant with what he described as a “subsisting credible corruption dossier,” referencing reports by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) alleging the movement of funds to offshore accounts.
He noted that Obi has neither sued the organisation nor publicly cleared his name of the allegations.
Omokri concluded by questioning the basis of Obi’s claim to superior experience, arguing that governance records, educational background, and economic outcomes should form the basis of leadership assessment rather than sentiment.
He also highlighted recent economic figures, crediting the Tinubu administration with improving Nigeria’s GDP since May 2023.
The exchange adds to growing political debate ahead of the 2027 general elections, as key figures and their supporters intensify arguments over leadership competence, experience, and track records.
