Political commentator and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has openly criticized Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for his silence following the reported abduction and murder of Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as “Fish Magnet,” in Anambra State.
In a strongly worded post shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Omokri questioned why Obi, who is also from Anambra State, has not spoken publicly about the young entrepreneur’s tragic death. Onyekere, a rising business figure and social media influencer, was reportedly kidnapped and killed in his home state—a development that has triggered outrage online.
“Peter Obi is never shy about jumping onto trending issues like this, as long as they occur outside Igboland,” Omokri stated.
Drawing comparisons with Obi’s vocal responses to national tragedies such as the Ibadan stampede deaths, the burning of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto, and killings in Uromi, Edo State, Omokri accused the former Anambra governor of selective activism.
He further alleged that Obi spreads misinformation on economic matters, citing a recent claim by Obi that President Bola Tinubu was planning to borrow $21 billion under the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF)—a claim Omokri described as false.

“Peter Obi will suddenly become deaf, dumb, and blind if it happens in Igboland. But Peter Obi will dance naked in public if it occurs in the North or Southwest,” Omokri wrote.
He described Obi’s silence on Southeast tragedies as consistent with what he called “tribalistic character,” implying that the politician gives more attention to crises in other parts of the country while neglecting similar or worse issues within his home region.
The post, which has sparked intense reactions online, reignites debates around regional bias, political posturing, and public responsibility among high-profile political figures.
As of the time of reporting, Peter Obi has yet to respond to Omokri’s claims or issue a statement on Onyekere’s death.
