Emergency Alert: Kefas Prioritizes Infrastructure, Human Services

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has declared a comprehensive state of emergency on infrastructural development and human services across the state.

The Governor cited growing challenges in these sectors, which pose significant risks to public health, safety, and the general welfare of the population, as the driving factor behind the critical decision.

According to a statement made public on Friday, the 28th of November, 2025, by the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), this declaration is specifically geared towards fast-tracking necessary interventions required to improve these crucial sectors throughout Taraba.

To spearhead the emergency response, Governor Kefas also gave his approval for the establishment of a specialized, 24-month Emergency Implementation Committee (EIC). This committee has been mandated to coordinate and oversee all measures and interventions taken during the emergency period.

The announcement confirms that the EIC will be chaired by Danladi Baido Tijos, and its membership will be drawn from key ministerial and state agencies.

These essential members include the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner of Health, the Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, the Commissioner of Basic Education, the Commissioner of Water Resources, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, the Commissioner of Energy and Economic Development, the Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change, and the Commissioner of Works & Infrastructure.

Furthermore, the Chairman of the State Planning Commission, the State Auditor-General, and the Director-General of the Bureau for Public Procurement will also serve on the committee.

In a related and separate development, the Taraba State Government has simultaneously announced the creation and redesignation of several ministries as part of an ongoing administrative restructuring approved by the Governor. According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps, these adjustments involve establishing new ministries and renaming existing ones to better reflect their defined mandates.

The changes include replacing the former Ministry of Cooperatives & Poverty Alleviation with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Service.

Additionally, two entirely new ministries have been created the Ministry of Nursery and Basic Education and the Ministry of Secondary, Vocational and Skill Education. Finally, the statement confirmed that the Ministry of Social Justice will now be replaced by the Ministry of Social Justice and Re-Integration.
