The Bauchi State Government has officially declared Friday, the 28th of November, 2025, a work-free day across the state in profound reverence for the passing of the respected Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi. The announcement follows the news of the Sheikh’s death at the age of 101.
The official directive was issued on Thursday, the 27th of November, 2025, by Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Bala Mohammed.
The gesture is intended to allow a large turnout for the funeral and to acknowledge the immense contribution of the scholar to religious life in Nigeria.
The statement clarified the primary objective of setting aside the day for public mourning: “This declaration comes as a mark of respect and honour for late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, whose funeral prayer is scheduled to take place tomorrow in accordance with Islamic rites. “The decision is meant to enable government workers, students, followers of the late scholar, and the general public to participate in the funeral prayers and pay their last respects.”

Gidado noted that the decision reflects the government’s acknowledgment of Sheikh Bauchi as a towering figure whose spiritual guidance and dedication had a significant reach beyond Bauchi State. The official tribute went on to describe the profound nature of the scholar’s legacy “The government recognises the profound impact of Sheikh Bauchi’s life and legacy his dedication to Islamic scholarship, Qur’anic education, spiritual mentorship, and the promotion of peace, unity, and moral uprightness across Nigeria and beyond,”
The state government concluded its announcement by urging the public to stand with the deceased’s community during this period, calling for widespread prayers for the soul of the departed scholar: “The government also called on the public to pray for the repose of his soul and to extend support to his family, students, followers, and the wider Muslim community during this period of mourning. May the soul of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi rest in eternal peace. Ameen,”
