Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto State and senator representing Sokoto South, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s deepening internal crisis.
Tambuwal announced his resignation in a letter dated March 11, addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri.
In the letter, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives said persistent disagreements and divisions within the party influenced his decision to leave.
He also disclosed that he would be joining the recently registered African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal explained that the move came after careful consideration and consultations with political associates and stakeholders.
“The leadership disagreements and divisions within the party at various levels have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my active participation and commitment as a member,” the letter reads.

“The ongoing conflicts have, unfortunately, weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party.”
The senator expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities it provided him over the years to serve in different public offices.
According to him, his decision to leave the party was guided by the need to support a political platform that aligns with his vision for the country’s development.
He stated that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on principles of accountability, integrity, inclusiveness, and a clear focus on national progress.
Tambuwal also reaffirmed his dedication to public service and democratic ideals, stressing that his political future would remain centred on promoting justice, national unity, and development.
