Police Arrest Suspect Over ‘Ogo Ojigbo’ Murder In Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command on Monday confirmed the arrest of a suspect, Giwa Sodiq, in connection with a violent altercation that resulted in the death of a man identified as Kehinde, popularly known as “Ogo Ojigbo,” in Asalu Community, Lalupon, in Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan, the state capital, on Monday.

According to him, the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital Morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy.

Ayanlade explained that preliminary investigations revealed that community members eauthorities had earlier reported to the Iyana-Offa Police Division that residents were alerted by local security guards to a confrontation involving a group of youths in the community during the night.

He said the injured persons were immediately rushed to Ojo Oluwa Hospital, Iyana-Offa, for medical attention, where Kehinde later died from injuries sustained during the clash.

“Upon receipt of the report, a team of police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Iyana-Offa Division, promptly proceeded to the scene and the hospital. Photographs were taken for documentation purposes, and one suspect, Giwa Sodiq, was arrested in connection with the incident,” the statement read.

The police spokesperson added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene to ensure they are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, commended the swift response of the operatives and called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.

He also appealed to members of the public with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects to come forward and assist the police in their investigation.

The command further urged residents to cooperate with security agencies to ensure the safety and security of their communities.
