The Nigerian Institute of Building (NIB) has called for increased vocational and technical training for artisans in Nigeria’s construction industry, following a new partnership with Royal by West African Ceramics Limited (WACL).
The institute’s President, Daniel Kolade, made the announcement on Monday during the 2026 Builders Day in Abuja, revealing that the collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at addressing the shortage of technically skilled artisans.
Kolade said the initiative will promote the use of contemporary building materials, enhance technical competence, and introduce structured training programmes to equip artisans with practical skills and improve overall workmanship in the sector.
“This partnership represents a significant step towards strengthening technical competence within the construction workforce and promoting the use of modern building materials and best construction practices,” he said.

He further stressed that the programme would support national efforts to promote vocational education, improve employability, and empower artisans with sustainable livelihoods.
Also speaking at the event, Franklin Jose, Managing Director of Royal by WACL, said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s construction sector through skills development.
“By equipping artisans with practical knowledge and modern techniques, we are creating opportunities for employment while raising quality standards across the industry,” he said, noting that the training programme is part of the company’s broader corporate social responsibility initiative.
The partnership underscores efforts to expand opportunities for skills development, professional training, and workforce empowerment across Nigeria’s construction industry.
