The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has issued a firm position ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning against any form of electoral interference and calling for accountability in leadership.
The group, in a statement signed on Sunday, the 22nd of March, 2026, by its President General, Goodluck Ibem, stressed that the coming election should reflect voter choice shaped by performance, not influence or propaganda.
COSEYL said it will not accept actions that undermine the voting process, stressing that
“any attempt by any individual, political party, or institution to tamper with the electoral process will be met with lawful, collective, and absolute resistance by the people”.
It added that political awareness among citizens has increased and voters are ready to protect their choices through legal means. In its words, “The era where votes are stolen and mandates imposed against the will of the people is over. Our people are politically conscious, vigilant, and prepared to defend their votes within the ambit of the law.
The group also tied electoral support to performance in public office, stating that leadership must reflect responsibility and service. It noted that “Only leaders who have demonstrated credible performance, accountability, and genuine commitment to the welfare of the people will earn the mandate to lead. Those who have used public office to oppress, neglect, or exploit the people must prepare to be voted out decisively,”
COSEYL urged citizens across the region to take voter registration seriously and secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing it as central to civic participation.

It reinforced its position on democratic power, adding “Let it be known: power resides with the people. That is the true essence of democracy, and we will defend it.
COSEYL reaffirmed its stance on credible elections and governance, saying “COSEYL remains committed to promoting credible elections, good governance, and the collective interest of our people.”
