Gombe Deputy Governor Hosts PSC, Backs Transparent Police Recruitment

The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Manassah Jatau, on Monday hosted officials from the Police Service Commission (PSC) overseeing the ongoing recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking during the visit to his office, Jatau lauded President Bola Tinubu for tackling national security challenges by initiating the recruitment of additional police personnel.

He also commended the PSC for its dedication to ensuring transparency and credibility throughout the exercise.

“Effective supervision is critical to the success of any policy; it guarantees adherence to established frameworks without deviation,” Jatau said.

The deputy governor highlighted the role of key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, whose understanding of local communities and terrain enhances the effectiveness of security measures.

He noted that Gombe State applies Talcott Parsons’ system theory, which values input from all segments of society in governance, attributing improved security in the state to this inclusive approach.

Jatau expressed confidence in the PSC monitoring team, led by a retired Supreme Court Justice and Commissioner One, and reaffirmed the state government’s full support for the Nigeria Police Force.

Justice Paul Galumje (retd), head of the PSC delegation, explained that the recruitment exercise is part of President Tinubu’s directive to enlist 50,000 qualified Nigerians into the police.

He said the monitoring team includes officials from the PSC, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Federal Character Commission.

Galumje stressed that the recruitment must be conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner under a quota system, warning that any malpractice, including attempts at financial inducement, would be met with strict consequences.

He also praised Gombe State for its level of development, noting that the state’s progress has positively impacted residents.

The PSC officials expressed appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality they received from the government and people of Gombe State.
