Tension marked the Peoples Democratic Party NEC meeting in Abuja on Monday, the 23rd of March, 2026, as the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, directed strong comments at Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Wike questioned recent political narratives circulating within the party and dismissed claims tied to private meetings involving him and the President. He declared, “A fight you can’t fight, don’t start it,” and added, “It’s unfortunate a fight you cannot fight, you started.”
He emphasized that politics should not be treated like contract work, saying, “They are two different things. You wanted money; I wanted power. Stay where you are as a contractor.”
Wike further stated, “Politics is not a contract of Shell. I didn’t go into politics to be a contractor. I went into politics to have power.”

The minister warned party members about loyalty ahead of the national convention scheduled for the 29th and 30th of March.
“After this NEC meeting, anybody that doesn’t show commitment to the convention don’t come back after and say you are fully back. I will not accept that,” he said.
Wike also urged leaders to strengthen unity and reconciliation within the party, stressing that political ambition requires strategy and sincerity, not bravado.
