Troops under Operation Whirl Stroke have freed a 28-year-old woman, Mrs Member Ityavber, who was abducted in Tse-Ubena village, located in the Yooyo Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The development was disclosed in a statement on Thursday, March 26, by the Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, who said the mission was carried out with support from the Benue State Civil Protection Guard.
Lt Zubairu explained that the troops acted swiftly after receiving intelligence on kidnapping activities in the area. Personnel deployed from Tor-Donga worked alongside members of the state security outfit to execute the operation.
Providing details, the statement read partly, “Troops responded to reports of kidnapping activities at Tse-Ubena village in Yooyo Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.
“Troops deployed from Tor-Donga, in conjunction with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, conducted the operation.

During the operation, one kidnapped victim, Mrs Member Ityavber, aged 28, was successfully rescued.”
In a related development, the OPWS spokesperson revealed that two suspected armed herders were apprehended in Mbapa and Mbabuande communities within Gwer West Local Government Area.
He noted that the arrests followed credible intelligence, which led troops to an abandoned location believed to be a criminal hideout.
Further clearance operations extended to areas across River Akpako, resulting in the capture of the suspects, who are now in custody undergoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the Force Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, praised the troops for their swift and professional conduct.
He also reiterated the task force’s resolve to maintain security across the state, particularly as residents prepare for the upcoming farming season.
