Kano Woman Dies After Giving Birth To Quintuplets

A woman in Kano State, Hafsatu Yusuf, has died shortly after delivering quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

The development was confirmed on Thursday, March 26, by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, during a telephone interview with journalists.

He revealed that Yusuf passed away around 2 a.m. at the hospital.

According to him, complications arose following the birth of her five babies, three boys and two girls, as she suffered continuous bleeding that medical personnel were unable to control despite their efforts.

“She had been bleeding since after delivery, and all efforts by doctors to control the situation were unsuccessful,” he said.

K/Na’isa further disclosed that the deceased has since been laid to rest in line with Islamic traditions at her residence in Hotoro.

“We are appealing to the public to support the babies with milk and other essential items,” he said.

Despite the loss, he noted that the newborns are stable and currently receiving care at the hospital.

The incident occurred just a day after the Kano State Government announced it had assumed responsibility for the medical treatment of both the mother and her babies following the successful delivery at the facility.

Earlier, the ministry had confirmed that the quintuplets were delivered safely and placed under close medical supervision alongside their mother.

The deceased’s husband, Malam Salisu Nufi’u, had previously commended the state government for its intervention, describing it as timely.

Meanwhile, the government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening maternal and child healthcare services and reducing mortality rates across the state.
