PDP Crisis Deepens As Court Orders Turaki’s Arrest

A Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered the arrest of Kabiru Turaki, factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for failing to appear in court in a case brought by the Inspector-General of Police.

Justice U.P. Kekemeke, in a ruling on Thursday, March 26, 2026, said Turaki, a former minister, had no lawful excuse for his absence and must be brought before the court to face the charges.

The order directs relevant authorities to take immediate action to enforce his arrest.

The development comes amid a long-running leadership dispute within the PDP, which has been divided since its national convention in November 2025.

Turaki’s leadership has been contested by a faction aligned with Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, leading to multiple court cases and rival claims to control the party.

The crisis has also seen clashes over access to the party secretariat and legal attempts to nullify or uphold internal party decisions.

Despite the turmoil, Turaki’s faction has recently moved to assert authority in several state chapters while pursuing legal remedies to solidify its claim.

The court’s arrest order intensifies the dispute, raising questions about the faction’s ability to navigate ongoing political and legal challenges as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Turaki’s legal team has yet to respond to the court directive.
