COAS Directs Strong Action Against Terrorists, Bandits

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has instructed troops to maintain persistent, intelligence-driven operations against terrorists and other criminal actors.

Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, stated that the COAS highlighted the importance of operational effectiveness and troop welfare as key to the Nigerian Army’s fight against insecurity.

The directive was given on Friday, the 27th of March, 2026, during a visit to troops at the Headquarters Nigerian Army Armour Corps and 33 Artillery Brigade in Shadawanka Barracks, Bauchi. Lieutenant General Shaibu urged soldiers to remain highly prepared and to intensify actions aimed at neutralising terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements in their areas.

He noted that ongoing attacks by these groups have caused widespread displacement and emphasized the Army’s commitment to restoring peace and stability to affected communities.

Reinforcing his command approach, the COAS assured troops that the Army will continue to provide the operational resources and logistics necessary for successful missions. He stressed the importance of professionalism, tactical efficiency, and continuous pressure to prevent criminals from operating freely and to rebuild public trust.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also reaffirmed his dedication to the welfare of soldiers and their families, highlighting that a motivated and well-supported force is crucial for success. He said measures will continue to boost morale, improve efficiency, and strengthen combat effectiveness.

Earlier, he visited the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Dr Suleiman Rilwanu, commending the Emir’s support for the Army and other security agencies. He assured that military operations remain focused on eliminating banditry and criminality, while encouraging stronger cooperation between security forces and local communities.
