Omokri Praises APC Convention, Dismisses Opposition Chances Ahead of 2027

Political commentator and former presidential aide Reno Omokri has commended the organisation and unity displayed at the recent convention of the All Progressives Congress, describing it as a strong indicator of the party’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Omokri argued that the level of coordination and cohesion demonstrated at the event reflects a party firmly in control of its internal structure and political direction.

According to him, the convention, held in Abuja, showcased what he described as “discipline and unity,” with party leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, appearing aligned in purpose.

He noted that the presence of governors elected under the APC platform further underscored the party’s strength, adding that the gathering proceeded without reported disruptions.

Omokri contrasted this with what he characterised as internal divisions within opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

He criticised ongoing disagreements within these parties, particularly over leadership and potential presidential candidates, suggesting that such challenges could weaken their chances in future elections.

The commentator also referenced tensions among supporters of key political figures, including Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, as well as remarks by media personality Dele Momodu, which he said have contributed to internal friction.

While asserting that the APC has demonstrated its ability to manage political success, Omokri argued that opposition parties must resolve their internal disputes if hope to present a credible alternative to voters.

His comments come amid increasing political activity and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties working to consolidate support and strengthen their structures nationwide.

Analysts say the contrasting narratives between the ruling party and opposition groups highlight the evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s political landscape, where issues of unity, leadership, and public perception are expected to play a decisive role.
