Nafiu Bala, factional national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has denied reports that he resigned as deputy national chairman, describing the circulating document as forged.
His response follows a resolution by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, addressing the party’s leadership crisis.
In a video published by Rariya Hausa, Bala dismissed the purported resignation letter dated May 17, 2025, insisting he neither authored it nor authorized its signature.
“The signature on the document is forged,” he said, affirming his position as acting national chairman.
Bala traced his appointment to July 2, 2025, when the then national chairman, Ralph Nwosu, and other senior party officials resigned publicly during an event attended by prospective party members.

He said he and other officials were mandated to oversee party affairs pending a national convention.
Citing the ADC constitution, Bala said he assumed office in line with party rules, which empower the deputy national chairman to lead in the absence of a substantive leader.
He emphasized that any resignation from him would be issued on official letterhead. “Any letter without my letterhead is not from me,” he said.
Bala had previously disowned the same document on Friday, August 1, 2025, calling it “false, deceptive, malicious and fake.”
The ongoing dispute highlights persistent divisions within the ADC, with its leadership structure still unresolved ahead of the planned national convention.
