Zamfara Bans Signing-Out Activities In Schools Over Rising Misconduct

The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has announced an immediate ban on signing-out activities and related celebrations in all schools across the state, citing growing concerns over student misconduct.

The directive, contained in a circular issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Education, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, was copied to Governor Dauda Lawal, security agencies, school authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.

According to the ministry, signing-out activities organised by final-year students have increasingly become associated with acts of indiscipline, including indecent behaviour and other actions that contradict the moral and academic standards expected within the state’s education system.

To curb the trend, the ministry ordered the immediate suspension of such activities and directed all schools to convene meetings with stakeholders to ensure effective communication and enforcement of the policy.

Parents and guardians were also advised to caution their children and wards against engaging in the banned practices.

The circular warned that strict sanctions would be imposed on violators.

Teachers found aiding or condoning such activities risk disciplinary measures ranging from queries and written warnings to suspension or demotion.

Students, on the other hand, may face penalties including the withholding or cancellation of results, as well as being required to repeat their final year where necessary.

Security agencies and school security personnel have been mandated to ensure compliance, while religious and community leaders have been encouraged to support the initiative by promoting moral discipline among young people.

The ministry emphasised that the decision reflects the state government’s commitment to maintaining discipline, promoting academic excellence, and safeguarding the moral standards of students across Zamfara State.
