Tensions within the African Democratic Congress escalated on Thursday as a faction led by its National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, staged a protest in Abuja, warning prominent opposition figures to steer clear of the party’s affairs.
The demonstrators took to the streets of Abuja, accusing key political leaders—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and former Senate President David Mark—of attempting to take control of the party structure.
Leading the protest, Bala alleged that there were coordinated efforts by the named political heavyweights to hijack the ADC, a claim that underscores the deepening internal rift within the party.
He was joined by Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives under the ADC platform, as supporters marched with placards bearing messages such as “Woe to Political Marauders” and “Hon. Nafiu Bala, We Stand With You.”

The protest is believed to be a direct response to an earlier demonstration organised by a rival faction loyal to David Mark at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The unfolding developments highlight a growing power struggle within the ADC, raising concerns about the party’s cohesion ahead of future political engagements.
