The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Niger State has put on hold its planned congresses across all 25 local government areas, citing legal and procedural concerns.
The state chairman of the party, Musa Hassan, announced the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, explaining that the suspension will remain in effect until further notice.
According to him, the decision was taken to uphold the rule of law, adhere to constitutional provisions, and respect judicial authority.
Hassan also cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against acknowledging or validating any congress conducted by individuals or groups not duly authorised by the party leadership.
He further called on party members, stakeholders, and the general public to ignore any instructions or activities originating from such unauthorised persons, assuring that a new timetable for the congresses would be communicated at the appropriate time.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Niger State Chapter of the party, under the leadership of Alh Musa Hassan, hereby announces the immediate suspension of all planned and proposed congresses across the state, until further notice.
“This decision underscores our unwavering commitment to the rule of law, due process, and respect for judicial authority.

We therefore call on all 25 Local Government Chairmen, party members and stakeholders to remain calm, law-abiding, and peaceful throughout this period.
“This is to inform Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state not to recognise anything done by unconstitutional Committee’s, those parading themselves in the state.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the tenure of the current ADC Executive Committee in Niger State, as well as in other states, remains constitutionally valid and duly recognized by INEC.
” Consequently, the general public is strongly advised to disregard any directives, announcements, or actions from unauthorized individuals falsely parading themselves as party leaders.
“The party will duly communicate new dates for congresses and conventions following the conclusion of ongoing national consultations and meetings.
“We urge all members and supporters of the ADC to continue to uphold peace, unity, and discipline as we navigate this period,” he said.
