The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kogi State has dismissed reports suggesting that its planned congresses have been suspended, urging members to disregard the directive and remain committed to the party’s scheduled activities.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s state publicity secretary, Abdumalik Suleiman, described the purported suspension as invalid and lacking constitutional backing.
According to him, the directive—reportedly issued by the outgoing state chairman, Kingsley Ogga—does not hold legal weight within the party’s structure.
Suleiman stated that the authority to initiate or halt congresses rests solely with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), stressing that no state-level official has the power to override such decisions.
He further explained that the move contradicts the resolutions of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), which had earlier approved the continuation of all processes leading to the national convention, including ward, local government, and state congresses.

“The National Working Committee has already granted approval for the congresses to proceed as scheduled,” Suleiman said, adding that any attempt to disrupt the process undermines the party’s internal democratic principles.
The party spokesman called on aspirants, delegates, and members across the state to remain calm, law-abiding, and fully mobilised for the exercise, assuring them that all congresses would hold as planned.
He also warned against actions capable of destabilising the party, noting that any unlawful interference would be treated as a breach of discipline.
Despite the internal disagreement, Suleiman maintained that the ADC in Kogi State remains committed to due process, transparency, and the rule of law as it prepares for its upcoming congresses.
