The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party deepened on Saturday, April 11, 2026, as a faction loyal to Kabiru Turaki accused the Nigeria Police Force of taking sides in the party’s leadership dispute after reopening its national secretariat in Abuja.
Police operatives earlier that day unsealed the PDP headquarters in Wuse Zone 5 and Legacy House in Maitama, handing control of the facilities to a rival faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, which is aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Reacting in a statement issued later on Saturday, spokesperson of the Turaki-led bloc, Ini Ememobong, criticised the police action, insisting it undermines ongoing court proceedings over the party’s leadership.

He noted that the judgment reportedly relied upon by the police has already been appealed, warning that intervening at this stage could compromise the subject of litigation and weaken the eventual decision of the appellate court.
Ememobong described the move as a sign of partisanship, arguing that the police, being aware of the pending appeal, ought to have maintained neutrality.
Despite the development, he urged supporters of the faction to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that appropriate legal steps would be taken to defend their position.
The PDP has been locked in a prolonged internal struggle, with rival factions contesting control of its national structures, a dispute that continues to play out in the courts and within the party’s ranks.
