Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has commended Afrobeats star Davido for projecting the state’s cultural heritage and the Adeleke family name on the global stage during his performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2026 in the United States.
In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the governor described the moment as a source of pride, highlighting the significance of the artist’s use of traditional Yoruba elements during the performance.
The performance, which took place at the festival’s Gobi Stage, featured an elaborate introduction marked by vibrant visuals, pyrotechnics, and synchronised choreography.
A major highlight was the delivery of Davido’s oríkì — a traditional Yoruba praise poetry — associated with Ede, his hometown in Osun State.

Governor Adeleke noted that the display of cultural identity on such a global platform reinforces the importance of preserving indigenous traditions while promoting Nigerian talent internationally.
“Another proud moment. My nephew putting the family, our heritage and state on the global map,” the governor stated.
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, was the only Nigerian artist featured on the official 2026 Coachella lineup.
His set included a selection of popular tracks such as Dami Duro, Skelewu, Aye, If, and With You, drawing enthusiastic reactions from the international audience.
The performance also featured a guest appearance by fellow Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold, who joined Davido on stage for their collaborative hit High, further energising the crowd and showcasing the global appeal of Afrobeats.
Observers say the moment reflects the growing influence of Nigerian music and culture on the world stage, as artists continue to blend contemporary sounds with traditional expressions to reach wider audiences.
