The Presidency has clarified that former Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, resigned from office and were not sacked, contrary to public speculation.
According to a State House statement issued on Wednesday, April 22, Edun tendered his resignation on health grounds prior to the announcement of his replacement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Edun, who turned 70 on Monday, reportedly submitted his resignation letter on his birthday, expressing gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve.
“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he wrote, adding that Nigeria had grown “stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected” under Tinubu’s leadership.
He also paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, holding a closed-door meeting before stepping away from public office to focus on private engagements.
Similarly, Dangiwa resigned his position and appreciated the President for the confidence reposed in him during his tenure in the Federal Executive Council.

The Presidency noted that both men made notable contributions to the administration’s reform agenda, particularly in economic management and housing development.
Edun, an economist and investment banker, previously served as Lagos State Commissioner for Finance between 1999 and 2004 during Tinubu’s tenure as governor.
He also held roles at the World Bank and co-founded Stanbic IBTC, among other professional achievements.
Dangiwa, an architect, served as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria from 2015 to 2022 before his ministerial appointment in August 2023.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to both former ministers for their service, wishing them success in their future endeavours.
The President has since directed the new Finance Minister, Taiwo Oyedele, to consolidate ongoing reforms and deepen fiscal policies aimed at strengthening the nation’s economy.
He is also expected to forward the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma to the National Assembly for confirmation as the new Minister of Housing.
