A student of the University of Jos, identified as John Arum, has regained his freedom after spending weeks in captivity following his abduction by suspected terrorists.
Arum was reportedly kidnapped while travelling along the Jos–Kaduna route, a highway linking Jos and Kaduna, an area widely regarded as a hotspot for banditry and violent attacks.
His release was confirmed in a video circulating online, where the visibly distressed student appeared weak and exhausted, dressed in dirty clothes and showing signs of fatigue after the ordeal.
In the footage, a man speaking in Hausa stood beside him, announcing that he had been freed and expressing gratitude to God for his safe return.
Details surrounding the circumstances of Arum’s release remain unclear, as it has not been confirmed whether a ransom was paid or if security operatives facilitated his freedom.
Arum’s abduction had earlier drawn attention after a disturbing video emerged showing him pleading for help while in captivity.

In the footage, he appealed to his family and associates to raise money for his release, describing his condition as critical and expressing fear for his life.
Reports indicated that he was kidnapped alongside six other passengers during the journey, with the attackers allegedly demanding a ransom of ₦30 million.
The condition and whereabouts of the other victims remain uncertain as of the time of filing this report.
The incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing northern Nigeria, particularly along major highways, where kidnapping for ransom has continued to endanger commuters and residents.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the development, while concerns remain over the safety of travellers plying the Jos–Kaduna corridor.
