Police Recover Human Remains, Arrest Suspect In Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man found in possession of items believed to be linked to ritual and criminal activities.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspect, Awomehinde Tope, was apprehended on April 11, 2026, over allegations of stealing from his father, Awomehinde Kehinde.

The stolen items reportedly include three Boxer Bajaj motorcycles, nine goats, quantities of palm oil, four Android phones, two gas cylinders, gold items, and rug carpets.

Police investigations took a dramatic turn when one of the stolen rugs was traced to a buyer, identified as Olawale Sunday.

Acting on intelligence, operatives conducted a search at the suspect’s residence, where they recovered a number of items described as being of “investigative concern.”

Among the recovered exhibits were a bone suspected to be human remains, native sponges, fetish charms, black soap, and an expended AK-47 shell. Authorities say the bone will undergo forensic analysis to determine its origin.

Further developments led to the arrest of two additional suspects — John Vincent, 22, and Olakintan Oladele, 29 — who were found at Olawale Sunday’s residence.

Police said the individuals failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the items discovered.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the case to determine the full scope of criminal involvement, including the source and intended use of the suspected human remains.

“All suspects have made useful statements, and they will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” the statement said.

He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his leadership and continued support, noting that his experience has strengthened operations within the state.

The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest station as investigations continue.
