Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully foiled a coordinated terrorist attack on Kukareta in Yobe State, killing at least 24 insurgents and recovering a large cache of weapons.
It was gathered that the attack began on Thursday morning and lasted for about three hours.
Fighters launched an assault on the location, but troops under Sector 2 mounted a swift and coordinated response, preventing the attackers from overrunning the area.
This was contained in a statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force, Lt. Sani Uba, on Thursday.
The military said its forces executed what it described as an “offensive-defensive” operation, containing the assault and forcing the insurgents into a chaotic retreat.
During the engagement, troops reportedly inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers.
Following the clash, soldiers recovered a significant haul of weapons, including 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns, two PKT anti-aircraft guns, three rocket-propelled grenade launchers, and two mortar tubes.

Others include hand grenades, ammunition magazines, and large quantities of 7.62mm belted rounds.
The statement added that two soldiers sustained injury and have since been stabilised, while an armoured tank deployed as reinforcement sustained damage during the fighting, with its tyres blown out.
The military said exploitation operations are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and recover more equipment along their withdrawal routes, where blood trails and abandoned medical supplies have been discovered.
The latest operation underscores the continued pressure being applied by Nigerian forces in the North-East, as they seek to dismantle remaining terrorist networks and restore stability to the region.
Uba said operations would continue with sustained offensive pressure to consolidate gains and eliminate terrorist elements across the theatre.
