Wike Orders Immediate C-of-O Issuance For Law School, Waives All Charges

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has waived Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees for the Nigerian Law School campus in Bwari, Abuja, and directed that the title document be issued within one week.

Wike issued the directive on Thursday, April 23, 2026, during a meeting with the management of the institution in Abuja, where he expressed concern that the campus had operated for years without formal land documentation.

He described the situation as part of a wider issue of undocumented public assets in the Federal Capital Territory, adding that his administration is working to regularise such properties and improve land administration systems.

The minister instructed the FCT Director of Lands to waive all statutory and processing fees tied to the C-of-O and ensure immediate issuance of the title, stressing the importance of proper documentation for public institutions.

Beyond the land title, Wike announced emergency infrastructure interventions at the Bwari campus.

He disclosed that 10 units of staff quarters have been completed and will be commissioned as part of activities marking the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in office.

He added that another 10 units will be constructed using the same design to reduce costs and speed up delivery.

He also said work is ongoing on new male and female hostels to address accommodation challenges, while approval has been granted for a new auditorium.

Wike, however, raised concerns over delays in contractor mobilization and urged faster execution of ongoing projects.

He further directed the law school to work with the FCTA General Counsel to digitise its administrative processes, in line with reforms across FCT institutions, including the High Court.

“Anything we can do to help our children, we are willing to do that,” he said, adding that the staff housing project must be treated as an emergency to ensure prompt completion.

A Certificate of Occupancy is a legal document issued by government authorities granting an individual or organization the right to occupy and use a parcel of land for a specified period.
