EFCC Warns Content Creators Against Unauthorised Use Of Its Identity

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has cautioned content creators against using its name, logo, and likeness in skits and other media productions without official approval.

In a video message shared on Saturday via its X page, the agency said such portrayals often misrepresent its operations and standard procedures.

“It has come to the attention of the EFCC that some individuals and content creators are using the name, logo and likeness of EFCC in skits and other media content. Many of these skits misrepresent our values and standard operating procedures,” the commission stated.

The anti-graft body emphasised that it does not endorse or approve any content that uses its identity without prior consent.

“The EFCC does not endorse, sponsor or approve any comedy, drama or online content that uses our identity without written consent,” it added.

The commission directed individuals involved in such practices to stop immediately, warning of legal consequences for defaulters.

“Therefore, the public is hereby advised to cease and desist from using our name, logo, uniforms or any identifying elements in skits or promotional content without prior written approval. Be warned, all who violate these instructions shall be prosecuted,” the statement said.

The warning follows growing concerns by the agency over impersonation and fake operations carried out by individuals posing as EFCC officials.

According to the commission, intelligence reports indicate that fraudsters have been deploying deceptive tactics, including staging fake sting operations in public places, to exploit unsuspecting victims and tarnish its image.
