Bandits Kill 11, Injure Two In Katsina Attack

Suspected bandits have carried out a deadly assault on Gurbi community in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, leaving 11 people dead and two others injured.

The attack, which occurred on April 26, 2026, was confirmed by the Katsina State Police Command, which said gunmen stormed the area in the afternoon and opened fire on residents.

Those injured in the incident were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment, while the remains of the victims have been released to their families for burial in line with Islamic traditions.

The command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, said security operatives responded swiftly after receiving a distress call.

According to him, a combined team of police officers, military personnel, and other security agencies, led by the Divisional Police Officer, moved to the scene to confront the attackers.

He explained that the gunmen fled the area upon noticing the approaching security forces, adding that calm has since been restored in the affected community.

Sadiq further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ali Fage, has reinforced security presence in the area by deploying additional tactical teams to prevent further incidents.

He noted that the commissioner has also instructed field officers to step up intelligence gathering and patrol operations, while strengthening coordination with local stakeholders and other security outfits.

The police command extended condolences to families of the victims and reassured residents that efforts are ongoing to identify, track, and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

Residents were also urged to remain calm and cooperate with authorities by providing useful information that could aid investigations.

The latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing parts of northern Nigeria, where communities continue to grapple with recurring attacks by armed groups.
