The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State in the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal disputes and uncertainty within the party.
Abejide, who won election twice on the ADC platform, announced his decision at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, May 1, bringing an end to his long-standing role in the party.
Reflecting on his involvement, he said he played a key role in building the party’s structure and expanding its political relevance across the country.
“I joined ADC, nurtured it to national recognition as a political party with representation in both national and state assemblies.
“The party structure was funded by me as the then national leader of the party, which I have willingly relinquished to the current national chairman, Honourable Nafiu Bala Gombe, and I wish him good luck as he continues to fight for his rights in court.
“I have decided to change the broken bricks in the ADC and become a cornerstone in a better political party with a strong structure that will benefit my people,” Abejide said.
His resignation follows the reinstatement of a leadership faction led by former Senate President David Mark after a Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership tussle.

Abejide accused the new leadership and members of an opposition coalition of taking over the party in a manner he disagreed with, noting that the development prompted legal action on his part.
“It is a painful decision but necessary to save my political future from those who came to destroy my former political party that I laboured hard to nurture and loved dearly,” he said.
He disclosed that his legal team had advised him to exit the party amid the ongoing crisis, a recommendation he has now followed.
Although he confirmed his departure, Abejide declined to reveal his next political platform, indicating that his next move would soon be made public.
“You will know any moment from now where I am heading to. Maybe by the time I obtain my form, it will be clear to you,” the lawmaker said.
His exit adds to the growing list of political shifts as parties reposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
