Ijaw Group Launched To Push Development, Engage Governments

A new socio-political pressure group, the Ijaw Political Grassroots Development Movement (IPGDM), has been launched to advocate improved development in Ijaw communities and drive engagement with governments at all levels.

The convener and chairman of the group, Sheriff Mulade, disclosed this in a telephone interview on Saturday, May 2, 2026, in Warri.

Mulade said the movement was established to draw urgent attention to what he described as persistent underdevelopment in Ijaw communities across Delta State, despite their significant contributions to the state and national economy.

According to him, the group will serve as a platform for constructive engagement with key stakeholders, including federal, state and local governments, as well as community leaders and development partners.

“It is a known fact that Ijaw communities continue to lack basic infrastructure and development despite our enormous economic contributions,” he said.

“We are taking responsibility to champion the cause of our people and advocate a change in the current narrative.”

Mulade called on Ijaw sons and daughters, as well as other stakeholders, to support the initiative, stressing the need for unity and dialogue in addressing developmental challenges in the region.

He added that the movement would focus on sustained advocacy and engagement aimed at achieving inclusive growth and long-term development for Ijaw communities in Delta State.
