Army Clarifies Arrest Of Blogger Justice Chidiebere Over Alleged Poor Soldiers’ Welfare

The Nigerian Army has issued an official statement addressing the arrest of social media influencer and blogger Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as “Justice Crack,” following complaints linked to online posts about soldiers’ welfare.

In a statement released on Saturday, and signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, the Army said its attention was drawn to concerns raised by some soldiers regarding feeding and welfare issues.

These concerns were reportedly shared on social media by Chidiebere.

According to the statement, an ongoing investigation is examining potential breaches of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy, as well as allegations of attempts to misinform the public.

Preliminary findings suggest that the blogger engaged in discussions with soldiers on a range of issues, some of which the Army described as capable of inciting discontent within the ranks.

The Army further alleged that certain communications between Chidiebere and the soldiers touched on matters it characterised as subversive.

It warned that interactions in which civilians influence military personnel toward acts of indiscipline or subversion could pose serious risks to national security and military cohesion.

As a result, Chidiebere was detained alongside the soldiers involved.

While the soldiers remain in military custody, the Army confirmed that the blogger has been transferred to appropriate civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Reaffirming its stance, the Nigerian Army stated that it remains committed to upholding the rule of law and will continue to work with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served.

It also emphasised its responsibility to operate within legal frameworks while safeguarding national sovereignty.
