PDP Fires Back At Wike, Urges Nigerians To Disregard ‘Political Swan Song’

The Peoples Democratic Party has launched a scathing attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing his recent public outing as an exhibition of “political rascality” and urging Nigerians to ignore his remarks.

In a strongly worded press statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party accused Wike of using a media platform to malign prominent Nigerians while abandoning decorum.

The statement characterised the minister’s outing as an “unsolicited overdosage of political rascality, moral emptiness, and crass opportunism,” adding that his comments were “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Despite the sharp criticism, the PDP insisted that its statement was not a direct response to Wike’s remarks, which it described as his “political swan song,” but rather an apology to Nigerians for previously elevating him to positions of influence.

The party acknowledged its role in Wike’s political rise, noting that he had been supported to serve as chairman, minister of state, and governor, while expressing regret over what it termed the consequences of his public conduct.

It also called on individuals allegedly defamed by the minister to seek legal redress, stressing that no individual should be above the law.

The PDP further dismissed claims of Wike’s influence within the party, stating that there is no constitutional provision for the position of “National Leader,” which he is reportedly seeking to assume.

According to the party, ongoing activities, including the sale of nomination forms and preparations for primaries and a national convention, would proceed without interference.

The statement also rejected alleged threats attributed to Wike regarding financial institutions, insisting that the party’s operations remain intact and unaffected.

On legal matters raised by the minister, the PDP said it was awaiting the Certified True Copies of court judgments related to dismissed cross-appeals and challenged Wike’s associates to publicly clarify the reliefs sought and the court’s decisions.

Reaffirming its stance, the party assured Nigerians that “no amount of threats” would suppress the truth, maintaining that while falsehood may spread quickly, it would not diminish the eventual impact of facts.

The latest exchange underscores deepening tensions within the opposition party, as internal divisions continue to play out in the public space ahead of key political activities.
