The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has disclosed that 65 per cent of its personnel underwent retraining on weapon handling between 2023 and 2025.
FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, made this known on Friday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.
According to him, the command is targeting an additional 20 per cent of officers and personnel for retraining, with the aim of reaching 85 per cent coverage before the end of 2026.
Odumosu explained that officers selected for the arms retraining programme were drawn from the command’s 25 divisions and area commands.
He noted that the exercise was organised by the Arms Squad unit in partnership with the Nigerian Army.
Beyond firearms training, the commandant revealed that over 2,500 personnel had participated in refresher programmes covering different aspects of security operations.
“We have trained personnel from different departments and units at the command headquarters, divisions and area commands on operational skills, intelligence gathering, surveillance, administration, strategy, logistics and tactical manoeuvring,” he said.
He further disclosed that the command had completed a new training facility awaiting inauguration.
The facility, he said, includes classrooms and tactical obstacle courses designed to strengthen operational preparedness.

“This will further enhance physical fitness, readiness and operational capability, as well as the ability to respond effectively to criminal activities,” he said.
Odumosu also stressed the importance of embracing modern technology and global standards in tackling insecurity.
“We recently received drones from the corps’ national headquarters to enhance patrol of critical national assets within the FCT.
This requires proper training for operators, making training a continuous process,” Odumosu said.
He added that the command remained receptive to collaborations and support from stakeholders interested in assisting its crime-fighting efforts across the FCT.
