Just In: Tinubu Orders Overhaul of Security Training Centres Nationwide

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency on Nigeria’s security training institutions, citing outdated facilities and the urgent need to strengthen national security capacity.

The announcement followed inspections by the ad-hoc National Economic Council (NEC) committee, chaired by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.

The committee, which is currently evaluating training centres in Lagos, has been given 30 days to submit a comprehensive report with recommendations for infrastructure upgrades, curriculum improvements, and staff retraining.

Tinubu said the current conditions in these institutions were “below acceptable standards” and called on all tiers of government to ensure immediate reforms.

The move aims to equip the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other internal security agencies to effectively respond to growing security challenges.

Security experts welcomed the directive, noting that well-trained personnel and modern facilities are essential for public safety, restoring confidence in law enforcement, and creating an environment conducive to investment and economic growth.

The emergency directive underscores the administration’s commitment to rapid, tangible reforms in the security sector, linking institutional capacity to national development goals.
