The Bayelsa State Vigilante Service has arrested a suspected serial phone thief, identified only as Francis, for allegedly stealing 17 mobile phones at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Yenagoa, on Monday, November 3, 2025.
The theft occurred during the event marking Governor Douye Diri’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Francis was apprehended while attempting to flee with the stolen devices and has been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Authorities say the arrest highlights the importance of local vigilante services in supplementing formal law enforcement, particularly at events drawing large crowds.
