Armed men invaded the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s Offa 132kV Transmission Substation in Kwara State in the early hours of Thursday, May 7, 2026, holding operators hostage and disrupting electricity supply operations at the facility.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday, May 9, 2026, by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, who said the attackers stormed the substation at about 12:45 a.m. and forced their way into the control room.
According to the company, the gunmen held workers at gunpoint and compelled the operator on duty to shut down the Offa and Ojoku 33kV feeders before ordering a complete outage of the station.
TCN said the attackers also interfered with critical equipment during the operation, including relay buttons and control switches, while the station’s 40MVA transformer was opened, temporarily affecting power transmission within the area.

The transformer was restored at about 1:13 a.m., while supply was returned to the Offa feeder at 1:14 a.m. and the Ojoku feeder at 2:15 a.m.
The transmission firm said the motive behind the attack had yet to be established as investigations continue.
TCN, however, assured electricity consumers of its commitment to safeguarding transmission infrastructure and ensuring stable power supply across the country.
