Troops of the Nigerian Army have intensified ongoing security operations across the country, recording fresh successes against criminal elements in the North-West and South-East regions with the arrest of suspects, recovery of weapons and other incriminating items.

According to a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page on Sunday, the operations were carried out under Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, as part of efforts to strengthen internal security and sustain pressure on armed groups and criminal networks.

In Kaduna State, troops of the 2 Battalion deployed at the Forward Operating Base Dogon Dawa intercepted a suspected bandit during a snap roadblock operation at Damari in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area on Thursday, May 8, 2026.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Ibrahim Adamu, was reportedly arrested while riding a motorcycle.

Items recovered from him included one AK-47 magazine, three mobile phones, suspected Indian hemp and other materials.

The military disclosed that preliminary exploitation of the suspect’s mobile phone uncovered photographs allegedly showing him dressed in military camouflage and posing with a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits.

The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation.

Meanwhile, in Abia State, troops of the 14 Brigade under Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA responded to a distress call on Friday, May 9, 2026, over the alleged illegal possession of a firearm at Umuoriehe village in Umuahia North Local Government Area.

During the operation, soldiers recovered a foreign-made Ruger pistol from the suspect.

According to military authorities, the suspect claimed during preliminary interrogation that the firearm belonged to his late father.

He remains in custody alongside the recovered weapon pending the conclusion of investigations.

The Nigerian Army said the operations underscore its continued determination to deny criminal elements freedom of action and enhance the safety of citizens across the country.

It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against all forms of insecurity in line with its constitutional responsibility of protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and maintaining peace nationwide.
