Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade have neutralised three suspected terrorists during an ambush operation in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The operation, carried out by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) FUDMA, was part of ongoing offensives targeting terrorists and other criminal elements across the state.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade, Capt. Abayomi Adisa, the troops had taken strategic blocking positions along the Turare–Kitibawa–Kuka–Mai Damusa Road following intelligence on the movement of fleeing terrorists from the Matazu general area.

The statement said the encounter occurred on Saturday night, when the terrorists reportedly ran into the troops’ ambush.

“Three terrorists were neutralized during the operation,” the statement said.

Items recovered from the suspects include one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with three rounds of ammunition, one motorcycle, three cutlasses, assorted charms, and a cash sum of N3,500.

The Army said troops have continued sustained offensive operations aimed at restoring peace and security in Katsina State and surrounding communities.

It also urged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information to help eliminate criminal activities in the region.

Katsina State has witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups in recent years, particularly in rural communities affected by banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling. Security forces have intensified operations across several local government areas in a bid to curb the violence.
