Fire Guts Kano Polytechnic Main Library, Destroys Books, Records

A fire outbreak on Tuesday destroyed the main library of Kano State Polytechnic located along Yahaya Gusau Road in Kano, razing valuable books, equipment and academic records.

The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Kano State Chairman of the National Library Staff Union, Malam Nazir Muhammad, who described the development as a major setback to academic activities, research and knowledge preservation in the institution.

According to the statement, the fire destroyed important educational materials and working tools within the library, raising concerns among members of staff and students of the polytechnic.

The union sympathised with affected library workers, the management of the institution and students, stressing that the library remains central to teaching, learning and research activities in the school.

It also appealed to the government, educational authorities and well-meaning Nigerians to support efforts aimed at rebuilding and improving the damaged facility.

The incident adds to a series of fire outbreaks reportedly recorded at the institution in recent times.

As of the time this report was filed, the cause of the fire had not been determined.
