Gaya to Host New Polytechnic as Kano Govt Unveils C’ttee

Kano State is setting the stage for a new chapter in its educational journey with the formation of a 15-member technical committee to oversee the creation of a polytechnic in Gaya.

The committee was officially inaugurated by Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who also heads the Ministry of Higher Education. At the inauguration, Comrade Gwarzo didn’t mince words as he addressed the newly appointed members.

“You are to strictly adhere to your terms of reference and ensure the timely completion of your assignment,” he said. “This project is of great importance to the people of Kano State, especially the Gaya region, and it must be handled with all seriousness.”

Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, confirmed the development in a statement shared with journalists on the 20th of May,2025.

Leading the committee is Dr. Hadi Bala Yahaya, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher Education. Working closely with him is Shehu Sani Dauda, Director of Administration and General Services, who will serve as the committee’s secretary.

The committee is expected to cover a wide range of responsibilities. They are to assess the current infrastructure at the proposed polytechnic site, draft a bill to legally establish the institution, and prepare a bill of quantities for additional facilities.

They must also design both an academic brief and a physical master plan.

Their task includes recommending the necessary human and material resources needed for the polytechnic to take off. To ensure thoroughness, they are permitted to bring in additional members for advisory roles and tackle any relevant issues that arise.

With just two weeks to complete the assignment, the pressure is on. The committee’s work could shape the educational landscape of Gaya for years to come.
