The personal driver of an Anglican Bishop in Delta State, identified simply as Bishop Chinedu, has been arrested for allegedly conniving with kidnappers to murder his employer and steal his vehicle.
The suspect, alongside an alleged accomplice, was paraded at the headquarters of the Anambra State Police Command, where journalists gathered following reports of the shocking incident.
Speaking briefly to newsmen, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, confirmed the arrest of the suspects but said investigations were still ongoing.
“Don’t mind, details will be revealed to you soon after we conclude our investigations, as they have just been arrested,” the police commissioner stated.
According to information gathered on Wednesday, the prime suspect, who served as the cleric’s private driver, allegedly collaborated with kidnappers in a plot to dispossess the bishop of his Toyota Land Cruiser SUV.
However, the operation reportedly turned deadly after the clergyman was killed during the incident, while the vehicle was taken away by the suspects.

Police sources revealed that the suspects later moved the stolen vehicle to Anambra State in an attempt to sell it.
Orutugu explained that one of the suspects was allegedly negotiating to purchase the SUV when operatives swooped in and arrested them.
“They brought the vehicle into Anambra to sell it, and the man you see with him was the one who wanted to buy the vehicle, but in the process, they were arrested,” the CP added.
Security operatives prevented journalists from interacting with the suspects, insisting that full details of the case would be made public after the conclusion of investigations.
