A Nigerian pilgrim from Nasarawa State, Hajiya Rukayya Haliru, has died in Mecca while performing Hajj rites.
Her passing was confirmed on Wednesday, May 13, by the Nasarawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Idris Ahmad Almakura, who spoke to journalists in Mecca, said the 70 year old was from Keffi Local Government Area.
He explained that she had complained of illness before her death and did not survive despite medical intervention.

Almakura said he, along with other officials of the board and members of her family, was present at the hospital to oversee the necessary arrangements following her passing.
He added that her remains were later taken to the Grand Mosque in Mecca where the Janazah prayer was conducted in accordance with Islamic rites.
The board secretary advised other pilgrims to be mindful of their health and to promptly report any signs of illness to the medical teams assigned to them.
He also extended condolences to the Nasarawa State Government, the family of the deceased, and the staff and management of the pilgrims welfare board over the loss.
