IG, Okpebholo Move To Strengthen Edo Security

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Friday met with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo at the Government House in Benin City to discuss ways of strengthening security collaboration and enhancing public safety across the state.

During the meeting, the IGP reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to expanding partnerships with state authorities, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, and local communities in tackling emerging security threats through intelligence-driven and community-based policing approaches.

He emphasised that maintaining security requires joint efforts and active cooperation among all relevant stakeholders.

“Effective policing requires sustained collaboration between the Police, government institutions, traditional authorities, civil society, and the public,” the IGP said, noting that security remains a shared responsibility that depends on trust and cooperation.

Disu also applauded the Edo State Government for its continued backing of the Nigeria Police Force and its contributions toward strengthening security operations within the state.

In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo commended the Inspector-General for the reforms being introduced within the police force, especially measures targeted at improving professionalism, discipline, operational effectiveness, and community policing initiatives.

The governor further assured security agencies of the state government’s continued support, stressing the importance of institutional synergy in sustaining peace and safety.

Security can only be sustained through collaboration between government institutions, law enforcement agencies, and local communities,” the governor said.

As part of his activities in Edo State, the IGP also presented a keynote address at the Rotary International District 9141 Conference held in Benin City.

At the event, he spoke on the role of strategic partnerships, ethical leadership, and community participation in promoting public safety and national development.

He also highlighted ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force aimed at boosting intelligence-led policing, strengthening accountability, and restoring public confidence in the institution.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its resolve to continue partnering with governments, development agencies, and community stakeholders to improve security and create a safer environment for Nigerians.
