Okpebholo Charges New Brigade Commander to Strengthen Security Across Edo

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has called on the new Commander of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, to intensify efforts toward improving security across the state.

The governor made the appeal on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the new commander to the Government House in Benin. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, Okpebholo assured the army of the state government’s continuous support in combating insecurity and safeguarding lives and property.

Welcoming the commander, Okpebholo said his administration remained fully committed to sustaining peace and security.
“The security and protection of the people and properties of Edo State are very important to us. We will work with you wholeheartedly to ensure Edo remains secure,” he said.

The governor further disclosed that the state is procuring multifunctional drones to boost surveillance and operational efficiency.
“I want you to help us secure a new Edo, free from insecurity,” he added.

Okpebholo urged Brigadier General Balogun to communicate any challenges that may hinder military operations, noting ongoing government interventions in schools, hospitals, and road infrastructure, including the 36km Ekenwa–Gele-Gele Road project.

In his remarks, Brigadier General Balogun said he considered it necessary to visit the governor less than a week after assuming command of the 4 Brigade.
“I sincerely appreciate the work you have been doing for the brigade. I see the passion and drive His Excellency has for security; it is top-notch, and I must commend you,” he said.
