The African Democratic Congress has postponed its presidential and governorship screening exercise to Monday, May 18, 2026, as political parties intensify internal preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the screening exercise, which was initially scheduled for this weekend, was postponed without detailed explanation.
“The African Democratic Congress wishes to inform all presidential and governorship aspirants that the party’s screening exercise earlier scheduled for this weekend has been postponed to Monday, May 18, 2026,” the statement read.
The party also announced changes to screening arrangements for some federal lawmaker aspirants from insecurity-affected areas in Northern Nigeria.

“Furthermore, due to the security situation affecting some parts of Northern Nigeria, the screening of affected federal lawmakers’ aspirants will now take place in Abuja,” the statement added.
The ADC said all affected aspirants would be contacted directly with updated schedules and further information regarding the exercise.
“We regret any inconvenience this adjustment may cause and appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all aspirants and stakeholders,” the party stated.
The postponement comes amid heightened political activities and consultations among parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC, which is seeking to strengthen its national presence ahead of the polls, has in recent months intensified mobilisation and coalition-building efforts across the country amid ongoing political realignments.
