Police Nab Six Suspected ‘One Chance’ Robbers In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended six suspected members of an alleged “one chance” robbery gang said to be terrorising commuters around Ago Palace Way in the Okota area of the state.

The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, through a post shared on X.

According to the police, the suspects were arrested during a routine stop-and-search operation carried out by operatives along Ago Palace Way.

The statement said, “Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrestedll six suspected members of a notorious “One Chance” robbery syndicate, allegedly involved in robbing unsuspecting commuters along Ago Palace Way, Okota area of Lagos State.

“The suspects were apprehended following a stop-and-search operation carried out by Police operatives along Ago Palace Way.”

Police authorities explained that the suspects were travelling in a tricycle bearing registration number AAA 720 QL when officers intercepted them while they were allegedly attempting to rob commuters.

The command stated that the suspects abandoned the tricycle and fled immediately after spotting the police team.

“During the operation, a tricycle with registration number AAA 720 QL conveying about six occupants was intercepted while attempting to rob some citizens.

On sighting the Police, the suspects reportedly jumped down and abandoned the tricycle. A cutlass allegedly used for their operations and a mobile phone were recovered at the scene.

“The suspects were later identified as Basiru Rilwan (23), Afeez Akeem (25), Ademola Yekeen (20), Sodipo Oyeyemi (27), Ayomide Gafar, and Fabayo Michael (28),” the statement noted.

Further investigations later led to the arrest of all six suspects.

The statement added, “Further investigation led to the arrest of the six suspects identified as: Basiru Rilwan ‘m’, 23 years; Afeez Akeem ‘m’, 25 years; Ademola Yekeen ‘m’, 20 years; Sodipo Oyeyemi ‘m’, 27 years; Ayomide Gafar ‘m’; and Fabayo Michael ‘m’, 28 years.

“A cutlass and a mobile lphone were recovered at the location, while further search led to the discovery of a dummy pistol allegedly used in their operations.

“The suspects were found in possession of a dummy pistol allegedly used in carrying out their criminal activities. The suspects will be charged to court on completion of investigation.

“The Lagos State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, will maintain its commitment to sustaining proactive policing strategies aimed at combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the State.

Members of the public are encouraged to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing efforts in ridding the State of criminal elements ,” the statement added.
