IGP Orders Tactical Sweep Of Oyo Forests After Deadly Oriire Attack

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical and intelligence units to Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following a deadly attack and abduction incident recorded in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026.

The directive followed his weekend visit to the affected communities, where he conducted an on-the-spot assessment and reviewed ongoing search-and-rescue operations.

During the visit, Disu met with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, and other senior security officials, receiving briefings on deployments, intelligence updates, and coordinated operations across the area and surrounding forests.

He was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, due to Oriire’s proximity to border communities linking Oyo and Kwara States, as well as the Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle, in efforts to strengthen school security.
